The medical application of CO2 laser is based on the principle of Photo-thermal Ablation . Once CO2 laser is delivered to the soft tissue, the light energy is absorbed by the water inside the biological soft tissue. By heating up and vaporizing the water, the biological tissue is torn apart. In order to minimize heat convection to surrounding tissue and collateral heat damage, the duration of laser beam on the tissue can be controlled under 1 ms.
